[ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) ]

Q: Why do you use the term "world haiku"?
A: Because World Haiku Festival 2000 is based on a totally new concept and purposes. Namely, it interprets haiku as a world phenomenon, an interesting development in the history of world literature and culture rather than as something practiced only in Japan, or as something looked at only from one particular country's point of view. The "world haiku" is a new term coined especially with that in mind. The definition is simply haiku written and enjoyed in the world, i.e. in more than seventy languages and in many different cultures. However, the implications of grasping haiku in such a holistic way are at this moment little understood.
