1st "Mock Tournament":
WAR OF THE ROSES, February 24-28, 2001
White Rose Society vs. Order of the Red Rose
Captain John Bird, White Team
Captain Mary Lee McClure, Red Team

WHC conducts biennial online tournaments designed by  WHC Policy Director with special interest in Japan, Mitsugu Abe of Japan.

The first game  was conducted as a prototype of forthcoming events on WHC's flagship mailing list, WHChaikuforum in February 2001. Members watched in the role of spectator - judge whilst 10 knights on 2 teams contested for the cup.

Led by Captain, John Bird of the White Rose Society and Captain, Mary Lee McClure of the Order of the Red Rose, and refereed by Umpire,  WHC Chairman, Susumu Takiguchi, the two teams competed for votes with a volley of 30 haiku in 3 categories: "Sky," "Water," and "Free Choice," amid volleys of  lighthearted jousting of poetry and wit. A jolly good time was had by all. (Click hyperlinks to read the haiku of both teams.)

The World Haiku Club Global Tournament is designed for all of us to enjoy haiku composition and have fun, in addition to our serious attempt at learning and improving our haiku. We hope that it will bring in a little bit of a sense of fun to you. - Susumu Takiguchi, Chairman WHC
